EYP SCAP completes its control installations in the Piqueras tunnel
This tunnel, which has been constantly demanded by the public, will ease communications between Soria and La Rioja bypassing, in winter, the difficult passage through the Piqueras mountain pass.
EYP SCAP has finished the installation and startup of the safety subsystems (CCTV, automatic incident detection), radio coverage, emergency communication, ventilation controls, signaling, lighting, and the centralized Piqueras tunnel management system.
The tunnel is a bidirectional tube with an evacuation gallery built parallel to the tunnel structure. This gallery is connected to the tunnel through 11 evacuation corridors located along the 2,444-meter length of the tunnel.
This new infrastructure was opened on October 3, 2008, which means that drivers will be able to use it this winter, benefitting from improved communications between the provinces of Soria and La Rioja.
This tunnel is endowed with the maximum safety measures in compliance with the new standards for tunnels that become mandatory since May 26, 2006.
